Part 1 was the prior entry in the Timeline series of articles; this is Part 2. It continues into Part 3.

The Mythical Age (MA)

This is a detailed account of the events that have taken place within Althas during the Mythical Age. This Age follows the Gorandel kingdom's Calendar System.

The abbreviation MA stands for "Mythical Age".

The Fall of The Dominion

  • 0 MA: The counting of years begins in what will be known as the Gorandel kingdom's Calendar System. [1]
  • 20 MA: Around this time is the first recorded death of old age.
  • 85-90 MA, The Breaking of The Dominion: The tension between the seven remaining Tribes reaches its apex, with The Dominion teetering on the brink of a massive civil war. [3]
    • Mellendil calls on Losdejim to divide the Seven Tribes from each other. Each tribe will be sent to a new land to settle, with Mellendil revealing that land, and the path to it, to Losdejim.
    • Losdejim divides the tribes and chose an Elder from each. The Tribes then set out, led by their Elders, for their new lands. [4]

The Anointed Kingdoms

  • 150 MA: All of the Seven Tribes settle in their new lands and established their domains. [5]
    • The Drevril are enraged by the peace made between the Seven Tribes. They create a new set of Night Stones, designed purely for chaos, so that they may destroy these new settlements. [6]
    • These new stones have little effect on Man, but does on the beasts of Althas. Beasts effected by these Stones will slowly become known as Nomshethairos.
  • 305 MA: As the centuries pass, the Tribes grow larger and their societies more complex. This put growing strains on the simplistic Elder system of leadership. [7]
  • 309 MA, The Passing of Losdejim: Losdejim withdraws himself from politics, never to be seen again.
  • 325 MA: The creation of the Noralar language and its writing system, with the aid of Drioloseb. [9]
    • Drioloseb declares the first moral doctrines and other teachings (creating The Scriptures).
    • Drioloseb assists in the founding of the Academy and Temple system.
      • The building of the Academy and Temple Towers at Thal Shiath causes the capital to be renamed to Thavairos.
  • 325-345 MA: With Noralar established, the Celestial tongue begins to fade out of use. [10]
    • The language of Maelan also comes into being around this time as well. [11]
  • 345 MA, The Controversy of Tongues: Although the seven Anointed kingdoms are built and stable, the kingdoms cannot agree upon a single tongue.
    • Anorthile, Gorandel, and Narthendar choose to keep their Celestial kingdom names, while the other four Anointed kingdoms chose to abandon their now meaningless Celestial names (Driesefair, Lamniemalos, Nosmalos, and Vishethas).
      • Tension arises between the Kingdoms that keep their original Celestial names and those that take Noralar ones.
      • This is resolved after Drioloseb scolds the Kingdoms holding on to their Celestial names for being prideful.

The new Night Stones and The First War, "The War of Man and Beast"

  • '397 MA: A new Night Stone was created by the Drevril, and was cast towards Narthendar. This one possessed an Avatar that calls Nomshethairos to it.
  • 399 MA, The First War ("The War of Man and Beast"): The Nomshethairos descended suddenly on Narthendar, destroying it's capital, and slaying King Methandos as he attempts to rally his people out of the heartland.
    • The other Kingdoms come to Narthendar’s aid, led by Methandos’ son Thrandole.
  • 402 MA: The Men of Althas have slain all the Nomshethairos called to Narthendar and destroy as many of the original Stones in the region that they could find. [12]
    • Thrandole himself is called to the Stone that called the Nomshethairos to his region. He chooses to keep it. [13]
  • 404 MA:Narthendar is restored and rebuilt.
  • 406 MA: People from Sheavob find a new Night Stone as well. This Night Stone asks for them to worship it in exchange for secret knowledge of what others are thinking. It feeds them lies about their surrounding village neighbors. [14]
    • They eventually attack Leavrall nearby to them and slaughter their people.
      • King Andorain is furious and sends his men to learn what is happening. This Night Stone forewarns the Sheavob people of Andorain's men.
    • The Sheavob people flee and sail to the currently unexplored islands to the south. [15]

The Interbellum

  • 410 MA: The first discovery of Thalomhavos in Thalomvob. Various groups of breeders move east to study the possibility of taming these new creatures.
  • 416 MA: Around this time, the Maelan language begins to overtake Noralar as the language of the people.
    • Driomi, in Maelan, is referred to as “The One.” The name Driomi stays as the most renowned to refer to Him.
  • 419 MA: A new naming convention, called Kingsword, is created for the Anointed kings.
  • 420-435 MA: Along the ridge of Voshellas, King Thrandole orders the building of a new capital for Narthendar: the fortress city of Thovairozil and the hall beneath named Zalothairar.
  • 425 MA: This marks the death of King Andorain, the last of the first Anointed Kings of Althas.

The Second War, “The War of Kings”

  • 445 MA, The Second War ("The War of Kings"): King Thrandole's Night Stone has fully corrupted him. He uses it’s power to enslave his people and launches a sudden attack against Driesefair and Lamniemalos.
    • Driesefair and Lamniemalos are able to effectively push Narthendar forces out of their kingdoms. They call for the aid of the other four anointed kingdoms of Anorthile, Gorandel, Nosmalos, and Vishethas to counter-attack. Thus begins
  • Summer 447 MA, The Siege of Thovairozil: The combined forces of the six Anointed Kingdoms against Narthendar are able to penetrate the fortress city's defenses and occupy the city.
  • Winter 447 MA, Battle of the Abyss: The first assault on Zalothairar. The combined forces delve deep into Zalothairar, where Thrandole waits. The assault is unsuccessful. [16]
  • 448-450 MA: The Gates of Anorthile are built in the northern pass of Thavairos.
  • 458 MA, Battle of the Terrible Night: The second assault on Zalothairar. The Anointed are warned by Losveshi not to attack Zalothairar yet. Driesefair, Gorandel, and Lamniemalos forces ignore his advice. The siege is broken by Thrandole’s forces, with the help of Nomshethairos brought under his will.
    • Thrandole's forces push out to the other kingdoms. With few forces left to defend their homelands, Driesefair, Lamneimalos, and the northern half of Gorandel fall under the darkness.
    • Anorthile hears news of the defeats and closes off the Gates of Anorthile.
    • King Inglore, King Malandor, and King Eldorain are slain in the ensuing battles.
    • Prince Enadar, son of Eldorain, gathers as many as he can to him and continues to fight in the Vossôthos in proud defiance. This, however, cuts him off from the eastern lands of Gorandel.
    • The Thalomhav tamers of Thalomvob flee into the forests. These agile mounts are used to resist the advances of Thrandole.
  • 459 MA: A large group of people in Lamniemalos board twelve large vessels and sail east beyond Nosmalos. [17]
  • 465 MA, The Glorious March: The final battle against Thrandole. Losnefeth leads the combined forces of the six Anointed kingdoms against Narthendar (alongside the remaining Kings and Prince Enadar). Thrandole is killed in the battle, and Thovairozil and Zalothairar are destroyed. With Narthendar’s royal line destroyed, the region falls into chaos.

The Northern Interregnum

  • 466 MA: Esomjathi falls under the rule of Hlithfót and his band of brigands. The rest of the regions outside the rule of the three remaining northern kingdoms are in similar discord.
  • 466-473 MA: The kingdoms of Driesefair, Gorandel, and Lamniemalos are slowly rebuilt. They regain control of their outlying regions.
  • 476 MA: Thenoran leads in the overthrow of Hlithfót from Esomjathi. The city is then renamed Mundríce and is declared an independent city-state.
    • Thenoran establishes a peaceful and just rule over the region surrounding Lake Mundmere.
  • 479-484 MA, Wars of Reclamation: Driesefair, Gorandel, and Lamniemalos reassert their rule on their frontiers and outskirts.
    • The Thalomhav tamers agree to rejoin Gorandel if their chief captain, and his line, are made the regional governor of eastern forest region of Gorandel. King Enadar agrees and the tamers are brought back into the kingdom. However, they begin to develop their own traditions and culture as time passes, renaming themselves the Thalom Sebairos.
    • The borders of these three kingdoms are restored to what they were before the Second War.
  • 486 MA, The Interregnum Controversy: King of Anorthile, King Endale, King Enadar, King of Lamniemalos, King of Nosmalos, and King of Vishethas meet to discuss Narthendar’s disorder.
    • It is decided that, in the absence of any new line being appointed by the people or the Diasairos, the region should be divided into two protectorate states ruled by Lamniemalos and Driesefair. North Narthendar is ruled by Lamniemalos and South Narthendar is ruled by Driesefair.
    • With the recent independence of Mundríce, it is decided that the city will remain independent as long as it's King swears allegiance to the remaining Anointed kingdoms. Thenoran agrees to this arrangement.
  • 507 MA, Death of Thenoran: Thenoran has no heirs, and thus his kingdom is left with no ruler. In his absence, his aged steward chooses for Mundríce to become a protectorate of Driesefair. Driesefair accepts this agreement. [18]

The Birth of Magic and the First Chosen

  • 465 MA: After King Thrandole's death, Narthendar (as well as the outlying regions of Gorandel, Lamniemalos, and Driesefair) falls into anarchy.
    • Losjefi is appointed by Driomi as the next Diasair-vil and, upon Driomi's orders, is sent to anoint the Seven Chosen, people who are given the gift of Magic to aid the people. [19]
    • Losjefi, witnessing the suffering in the lawless north, decided in his own wisdom to give the gift of Magic among many people. [20]
  • 470-472 MA, The Prophecy of the Doom of Magic and the coming of the Guardians: After his disobedience, Losjefi is taken by an Inestasia and shown the problems his disobedience has caused. Losjefi repents and begs for forgiveness; he is made a Diasair-theni for the remainder of his life and is shown a prophecy concerning the fate of magic. [21]
    • Four Aditharos are sent to Althas to guide and oversee magic until the prophecy comes to fruition. They will be known as the Guardians.
  • 480 MA: The Vanguard are formed by the Seven Chosen. They establish Hédansael in the mountains of northeastern Gorandel.
    • The Academy in Gorandel officially brings in magic as a subject of study. They make great advances in the subject. Because of their independence and growing secrecy, there is tension between the Academy and the Vanguard.
  • 515 MA: Maelan continues to evolve and change, becoming more like common Maelan. The former version of Maelan becomes Old Maelan, used primarily for naming (especially in the northern regions). Anointed also adopt their Kingsword names to New Maelan words for use in their names, as it is now the language of the people.

The Jevrethor and The Schism

  • Early 526 MA, The Jevrethor Controversy: The Academy in Gorandel is the first to become aware of najiros that have an intuitive ability to use magic and unique physical traits. They are singled out from the other Najiros and are called jevrethor.
    • They possess great power at their disposal from the start of their lives, and there were many incidents surrounding them.
    • Gorandel realizes both their threat, and also their potential to further expand their kingdom's knowledge of magic. The Gorandi begin to gather or remove them discreetly. [22]
    • The Guardians alert The Vanguard of these secrets being kept in Gorandel.
      • The Vanguard investigate and find that many of the Jevrethor are being mistreated throughout Althas, specifically in Gorandel.
  • Late 526 MA, The Deliberation of the Jevrethor: The Anointed, the heads of The Vanguard, and the heads of each of the Temples and Academies meet to debate the situation with the Jevrethor.
    • The council becomes divided on the matter, creating The Schism: Anorthile, Nosmalos, and Vishethas agree that the Jevrethor are not inherently evil, just Men that have been highly gifted. Driesefair, Gorandel, and Lamniemalos disagree with this notion, believing that the Jevrethor are a dangerous threat. Narthendar is divided on the matter. [23]
  • 531 MA: The third king of Anorthile creates The Law of the First Descendant and chooses his daughter as the next heir to the throne.
  • 536-546 MA, The Formation of the Vasomi: An issue arises with the Temple and Academy in Driesefair. Both institutions do not agree with the decision of the King of Driesefair concerning the Jevrethor. However, the King threatens to stop supplying royal guards to the Temple and Academy at Ecretei. An emergency council of all the Temples and Academies in Althas is called.
    • The Vasomi is formed. [24]
    • Driesefair’s King opposes the idea at first. Both Gorandel and Anorthile agree that this organization is for the best, since the Temple and Academy are traditionally autonomous. [25]

The Great Tourney

  • 592 MA: The Great Tourney is created to help alleviate tensions between the Kingdoms. The idea is proposed by Driesefair, but formulated by Gorandel. [26]
  • 621 MA, Duel of Woe: Courian, the brother of the King of Anorthile, is killed by a competing Gorandel warrior, without mercy, in the Champion's Gauntlet.
    • Anorthile demands that the man be turned over to Anorthile to be questioned concerning what happened, but Gorandel says that the man has vanished.
    • A botched assassination attempt on the King of Anorthile after the Tourney causes outrage in Anorthile as it is assumed that Gorandel ordered the death of the King and his brother.
      • Anorthile and its allies (Nosmalos and Vishethas) declare an embargo on Gorandel and its allies (Driesefair and Lamniemalos).
      • Anorthile readies an army in Thavairos poised to attack Gorandel, and Nosmalos and Vishethas prepare fleets ready to attack Driesefair and Lamniemalos.
  • 621-624 MA: Gorandel secretly contacts The Vanguard and the Vasomi of the Anointed kingdoms, pleading for their assistance. They insist that they had no part in whatever plot was planned against Anorthile at The Great Tourney. The Vasomi and The Vanguard, though with some hesitation, agree to help so that war can be avoided.
    • The rogue champion who killed Courian is tracked down, who is a jevrethor. [27]
    • The Vanguard help capture this young Jevrethor, who had the goal of bring down the reign of mathusalos. [28]
      • The Vanguard and Vasomi bring this information to Anorthile and manage to prevent all out war. [29]

The Ironrend Massacre and the end of The Schism

  • 734-736 MA, The Ironrend Massacre: Prejudice, and oppression, against Jevrethor has become widespread in Driesefair (especially The Strand), Lamniemalos, the Narthendar Territories, and the outskirts of Gorandel. [30]
  • Spring 734 MA: Unrád, along with Jevrethor and najiros under him, leads an attack on Ironrend’s fortress, freeing the Jevrethor imprisoned there and killing many of the Ironrend Najiros guarding it. [31]
  • Midsummer 734 MA: Gorandel’s chief Najiros lead as many of the Jevrethor as he can trust out from Nandorthel to meet Unrád in the forest separating The Strand from the rest of Driesefair. They meet and battle.
    • Unrád’s Jevrethor slaughter Gorandel’s forces mercilessly. [32]
  • Late Autumn 734 MA: Unrád now marches out of the forest towards Nandorthel. The Vanguard lead their forces out to the defense of Gorandel (among them are many powerful Jevrethor). They march to meet Unrád west of Nandorthel.
    • Unrád is defeated in battle by the captain of The Vanguard, a noble Jevrethor who has been raised by the Vanguard. Unrád’s forces are destroyed or captured. [33]
  • Spring 735 MA: The King of Gorandel calls the other Anointed Kings to meet in council. Gorandel expresses remorse for their part in what has happened. The events of the Jevrethor Schism, Ironrend Massacre and Night of Wailing has shaken the people of Gorandel and its allies, and awakened the Kings, to what is happening within their borders.[34]
    • Lamniemalos and the vassals of North and South Narthendar resist the decision. However, the Council affirms that Jevrethor slavery will be considered just as illegal as any other.
  • Autumn 735: King Fevron is discovered to have Jevrethor slaves working in the gem mines in northern Lamniemalos.
  • New Years 736 MA: The Anointed Kings meet; Fevron is forced to abdicate, in accordance with the laws of the Kings’ High Council. His secret activities shock the people, including his youngest son youngest son, who succeeds him as King and joins the other Kingdoms in following The Vanguard’s lead.
    • Fevron and his two older sons flee to Esheliros Bavem with a group of people who share his hatred of the Jevrethor. [35]
  • 736 MA:The Council had also decides that something must be done about the Governors in the Narthendar vassals. The Vasomi of the Anointed kingdoms and The Vanguard join together in patrolling the regions to prevent oppression against the Jevrethor.
    • While this creates tension in North Narthendar, it does greatly reduce the issues between the common people and the Jevrethor. This marks the ending of the Schism. [36]

The Losjefi Heresy

  • 751 MA: Losvilleth, a self-proclaimed teacher, appears in Gorandel. He claims to have been given a set of Losjefi's lost doctrines from an Inestasia. [37]
    • The Temples and Academies of the Anointed kingdoms begin studying the doctrine to determine its historical veracity as well as its continuity with what they already know.
  • 770 MA: Losvilleth dies after nineteen years of teaching. [38]
  • 773 MA: The Namseshi Vrolovairos gather together after their persecution intensified. They purchase several vessels from across Althas and have them brought together at the ports in Driesefair and Gorandel.
    • All of Namseshi’s followers, a large group, sail away in several vessels westward, seeking a land where they could more freely seek ascension through magic. [40]

The Basech Incident

  • 812 MA: Lambitelor ships are seen scouting Esheliros Basech. The Anointed begin to suspect that Lambitelor plans to expand, along with its beliefs about jevrethor.
  • 815 MA: Anorthile establishes a colony on one of the Basech islands, along with a military outpost. Lambitelor ships soon follow, establishing a colony and military outpost on another one of the Basech islands.
    • The Lambitelor colony discover a rare poison that only affects the Najiros colonists: their magic powers are essentially nullified when exposed to it. A few of the colonists go back to Lambitelor to tell their King the news. He immediately requests his alchemists to find a way to recreate this poison. [41]
  • 817 MA: The Lambitelor colony begins raiding the Anorthile colony and continues patrolling the islands. Soon, fighting begins between the two colonies. War seems imminent between Anorthile and Lambitelor.
  • 818 MA, Early Fall: The Lambitelor colony’s forces land on the island where Anorthile’s are stationed.
  • 818 MA, Early Winter: A ship arrives in Anorthile with some of the civilians and a messenger requesting reinforcements.
  • 819 MA, Late Summer: Anorthile gathers a fleet to send to the colony from Sheäjathi and also prepares a fleet to sail for Lambitelor from Eänos. However, when the forces were ready to sail, a strange storm envelopes the southern chain. [42]
  • 819 MA, End of Fall: The storms dissipate and the Sheäjathi fleet sails south to the Esheliros Basech. The Eänos fleet sails east to blockade Lambitelor.
    • The forces sent south arrive and discover that the entirety of the Anorthile colony has vanished. They go to attack the Lambitelor colony and find it suffered a similar fate. [43]
  • 820 MA: The remnants of the Sheäjathi fleet return home. Lambitelor is blockaded for around six months by the Eänos fleet. [44]

Notes

This section contains footnotes for the overall Timeline.

The Fall of The Dominion

  1. The proper designation for MA (Mythical Age) is not used until after the start of The Years of the Renewed Kingdoms.
  2. There is no written form, and so oral tradition is the means of information being passed on. Pictures and symbols are also used to a degree.
  3. Chaos reigns on the borders of the Tribes’ lands.
  4. These wise men are the first leaders among the tribes, but are more teachers than rulers. Losdejim teaches them the basics of his teachings and the way to reach the tribes’ new lands.

The Anointed Kingdoms

  1. The details of the Seven Tribes' settling:
  2. The Night Stones are cast into the northern waters and deep caverns of the northern mountains of Narthendar, so that they may gather strength unnoticed.
  3. Other factors include the lifespans of normal men are growing shorter as time goes on, as well as Losdejim’s impending death. Driomi also sees what the Drevril are planning and decides the tribes will need stronger identities and leaders of great power to be ready for the coming troubles.
  4. The Seven Anointed Kingdoms were built under the guidelines set by Losdejim. Also the Anorthile Kingdom has its capital moved to Thal Shiath.
  5. Many Celestial words were now given Noralar equivalents, including: Mellendil becomes known as Driomi, the universe is now called Ethesh, the world Jevreth, the continent Althas, etc.
  6. The pure tongue cannot be translated into written form and thus falls out of use quickly. People forget the meanings of its words.
  7. Old Maelan spreads among people in the countryside as it is a simpler tongue than Noralar.

The new Night Stones and The First War, "The War of Man and Beast"

  1. Many Nomshethairos escape though (especially lesser ones), and scatter across Jevreth.
  2. This Night Stone will later be known as the Thrandole Stone.
  3. This Night Stone will later be known as the Basech Stone.
  4. These islands will later be called the Esheliros Basech.

The Second War, “The War of Kings”

  1. A long period of small skirmishes, rather than large battles, ensue.
  2. They believe Althas is doomed, seeking new lands. These vessels will eventually land on the continent of Dritameshi.

The Northern Interregnum

  1. Mundríce is given more autonomy than the other vassals in Althas, including North and South Narthendar.

The Birth of Magic and the First Chosen

  1. The Seven Chosen take vows of chastity, so that their gifts would not pass to future generations.
  2. Some of those who are given the gift of Magic abused their power, nor did they follow vows of chastity that the Chosen did.
  3. Losjefi prophesies for two years and is then exiled. He roams the seas and islands around Althas for the remainder of his life.

The Jevrethor and The Schism

  1. Many are brought to Nandorthel to be studied and experimented on, leading to their harsh mistreatment, with or without the knowing of the head of the Temple or the Kings. All of this is kept quiet from The Vanguard and the other Anointed kingdoms.
  2. This begins a roughly 200 year period of division between these two groups of kingdoms. There is great tension and little political interaction.
  3. It is decided that, in order to maintain autonomy, the Temple and Academy must have its own protectors and individuals capable of carrying out certain missions.
  4. The formation of The Vasomi does not halt tensions.

The Great Tourney

  1. Driesefair uses this event to regain respect with the other kingdoms after its part in the Vasomi incident. A rivalry also quickly builds between Gorandel and Anorthile, who often use the event to help gain recognition for their ideas within each other’s borders.
  2. rogue champion has learned much in deep Magic, which allowed him to become stronger and faster in his fight against Courian.
  3. They learn that rogue champion escaped a terrible existence at the hands of a cruel governor in a city in northwestern Driesefair. The hatred which the people treated him with from the day of his birth convinced him that he must bring down the reign of mathusalos in order to establish a place for himself and other Jevrethor. His hatred foreshadows what is to come centuries later.
  4. Despite the pleading of The Vanguard and Vasomi with Gorandel, Gorandel still will not change their policies concerning the Jevrethor. They do, however, try to greatly increase the security of their outposts and keep better track of what happens throughout the regions.

The Ironrend Massacre and the end of The Schism

  1. Jevrethor in Anorthile, Nosmalos, and Vishethas are usually sent to The Vanguard to be taught and raised, but because the Vanguard’s stronghold is in Gorandel territory, the system suffers many complications.
  2. The escaped Jevrethor devastate Ironrend, massacring many of its residents. They storm southeast and kill any mathusalos they encounter, scattering the people in their wake.
  3. The Jevrethor and najiros of Gorandel are powerful. However, the Jevrethor of Gorandel are very young (some little more than children). Also, most are extremely simple, ignorant and unexposed to the outside world. This innocence is their undoing in the battle. The cries of the young Jevrethor of Gorandel give the battle the name “The Night of Wailing.”
  4. The heroism of The Vanguard and their sacrifice to save Gorandel and stop the march of the rogue Jevrethor becomes a great tale of heroism throughout Althas.
  5. Gorandel adopts the philosophy of the Vanguard concerning the Jevrethor and begin working with them and establishing outposts to help fight the small groups that would continue oppressing the Jevrethor regardless of decree.
  6. More will come to join Fevron and help establish the independent realm of Lambitelor.
  7. Despite the healing of the tensions between the Kingdoms, the damage that had been done could not be undone. The reputation of the Jevrethor among the common people has been so severely marred by the Night of Wailing and The Ironrend Massacre that it has not recovered completely even to this day.

The Losjefi Heresy

  1. These doctrines are pro-Magic, drawing in many najiros and Jevrethor (who are considered like "demi-gods"). The people who believe and follow Losjefi are known as Vrolovairos.
  2. After Losvilleth's death, the doctrines are declared heretical. However, Losvilleth's popularity restrains the Temples' and Academys' hands.
  3. The Vrolovairos are divided between the two pupils. While the Vrolovairos are all considered heretics, Lositaleth’s people are more tolerated. Namseshi’s people are more discriminated against, especially as Jevrethor join them. Many believe they are insurrectionists in disguise.
  4. It is believed that Namseshi's followers reached another land far on the other side of Jevreth (Dritameshi).

The Basech Incident

  1. Instead of recreating the poison, they find a way to create it into a gaseous form (Nemnesheth).
    1. This prevents the Sheäjathi fleet from approaching the islands. As they want a simultaneous attack from both fleets, the two fleets wait.
      1. Bodies are found of those who apparently fought in some battle. Their remains lay unburied. The Sheäjathi fleet remains to investigate.
        1. The remnants Sheäjathi force say that the rest have vanished, along with most of their supplies, and that two of their ships were sunk by another strange storm as they tried to escape. The King of Anorthile suspects this is the work of a Night Stone.
