The Wothboran are Thevelnim tribal people in the Vossôthos that have been altered by The Rúnwitan.

Wothboran means "Seers" in Noralar.

History

In 42 RK, the Rúnwitan ("Wise Men" in Old Maelan), the seven Jevrethor that have come to rule the tribal Thevelnim peoples of the Vossôthos, became worried about their survival as they were growing older and had no offspring with their magical potential. To help strengthen them, the jevrethor decided to undergo the risky process of altering them with magic.

Abilities

The alterations resulted in abilities that enhanced their stealthiness:

  • Their senses are sharpened, especially hearing and sight.
  • They can move without making any noise and also are more naturally agile.
  • They can speak to each other quietly from afar so that each hears the other but no noise is heard between.
  • They have the ability to sharpen their sight to see great distances in high detail.
  • These abilities make them excellent at hiding and hunting.

There are also, however, some unintended side effects:

  • The people become hypersensitive to sound, especially sudden noise. For some young ones it can almost be painful.
  • Overuse of the sight-sharpening ability results in blindness. This is common among great hunters in their later years; many of the great hunting teachers are blind.
  • These people, from this generation onwards, all have vibrant green eyes. The brightness is like that of jevrethor eyes (though the color green is not one that a jevrethor has). This feature marks them as changed by magic. Feralanders immediately mark them as infected by the "Weargas" ("Accursed Ones" in Old Maelan, a derogatory term for these people) and they are treated as outcasts by many. Those who live near their forest also come to call them "Forest Shades."
